You have a knack for finding a chink in the armor of your opponents. As a Free Action, choose an opponent you have Combat Advantage over and spend a Combat Die. You lose the normal advantages for holding Combat Advantage over a foe, and your opponent takes 1 Penalty to Toughness against your next attack. You are still eligible to make Surprise Attacks against this opponent.
If you take a second rank in Backstab, you may spend 2 Combat Dice instead of 1. If you do, rather than suffering 1 penalty to Toughness, you ignore any modifiers to your opponents' Toughness granted by Equipment. You may still choose to spend only 1 Combat Die and gain only the benefits of the first rank of this feat.
If you take a third rank in Backstab, you may spend 3 Combat Dice instead of 1. If you do, rather than suffering 1 penalty to Toughness, you ignore any modifier to your opponents' Toughness granted by any form of the Enhanced Toughness FX. You do not ignore any modifiers to Toughness from your opponent's increased Toughness or Enhanced Constitution. You may still choose to spend only 1 or 2 Combat Dice and gain only the benefits of the first or second rank of this feat.
Backstab in no way reduces your opponent's rank in Toughness, merely assigns penalties or ignores some or all of the modifier. Therefore your opponent still benefits from high ranks in an Impervious Toughness.
You may only use Backstab once per turn.
